A Process......

I desire so much for my home to be a place that cultivates creativity. I feel like the gift of creation is one of the most amazing presents giving to us by God-our Creator. I long for my house to be constantly busting with projects of beauty and art. I love watching Isabelle color and select which pencil will be perfect for the unique squiggles she will be drawing. (red is currently her favorite pencil to use...hence all the red pencils being worn down to a nub) I want my home to be a place where people come and then leave inspired to awaken the creator in themselves. There is something so amazing and freeing and childlike about the process of creation-and I never want to lose that in my life. Soooooo I have started a few projects that will aid me in this endeavor. A reading corner...full of blankets, pillows and a trunk full of books. A creative display string, showing all the wonderful things we are doing. A closet stuffed full of tools to help us make our imaginations grow and develop. I have been reading this book, The Creative Family, and I know it has been a welcomed catalyst to the ideas and efforts I have been making towards this end. I suggest reading this book... or at least reading those portions that interest you the most:) If anyone has suggestions on how they peak creativity PLEASE share those ideas in the comments. I know I love to learn from others! So keep your eyes open as I am hoping to expand on my rather pathetic start (but hey it is a start) of all these things! Have a lovely day-and stare out a window for at least one minute...God is the most inspiring Creator of all!!

the rack of cowls I have been working away at

the felt roll of pens I finally completed yesterday while the kids were napping (this project was from the book and super easy...especially if you are actually a friend with the sewing machine...I am not!)

You can totally buy them in person...and in fact my sister Emily and I are having a holiday sale on the 1st of December at her house-so you could do even more Christmas shopping there if you wanted:) I will have all my cowls and there are going to be a ton more people selling stuff as well...just an idea. You can totally come over and look at them anytime...or if you have a certain color you want to see let me know.:) hope that helps

I have been wanting to read this book but have put it on the back burner until we're a little closer to having kiddoes. All your ideas are great! I have been storing up thoughts about this in the back of my mind - how to make our home a place where our kids feel comfortable expressing and enjoying creativity.

well done! My mom gave me that book last year, and I've really appreciated it. And good question... how do I inspire/maintain creativity? I find that going on long walks is invaluable. And keeping supplies close at hand. And not worrying about whether other people think the time/work is well-spent or important (that can be a hard one). And reading, yes! And keeping inspiring pictures around.

Wow Abs, you inspire me. I get so caught up in the idea of having everything perfect before I start or knowing how to use the sewing machine before I dive in. I think you will be excited to know that last week I just dove in... I got really excited about Norah wearing bows and headbands and decided I would make them! So... I spent way too much money at JoAnne's and had fun doing it :)
