For Plucking

I ran out to the store, desperate to purchase a new set of tweezers. Somehow someone sat on ours and the two tips no longer meet up, which makes it particularly difficult to use. I scanned the wall of tweezers offerings at Walgreens and chose a set of two mini Tweezerman tweezers. I realized as I was checking out that one of the tweezers had a bizarre shaped head and one had the typical slanted head. It seemed daunting to use the bizarre shaped one since the tip looked more like a torture tool than a tweezers, but since the mini double pack was cheaper than the single normal sized tweezers I purchased them anyway. I am so glad I did. Let me just say I will never use slanted tweezers again. This pointed tip is ideal for grabbing those itty bitty hairs that seem to disappear the moment you bring a tweezers to them. These allow for such precision you have to remind yourself not to go overboard. (please ladies don't go overboard with the brows!!)

Have you ever seen ones like this? Ever tried them? Well you should.

my new "diaper bag"

My darling husband gave me this "diaper bag" from Madewell and I have been dying to use it. I disciplined myself, waiting until the babe was actually here until I broke it out. The bag is amazing. Not only does it have that intoxicating smell of new leather it also is huge. I swoon over huge bags. And since this is serving as my diaper bag and newborns often need a good amount of stuff I have had no trouble filling it.

what's in my bag

1.hobo international grey wallet
2. Extra gum
3. pen
4. nursing pads-in case things get out of hand
5. ziplock bag filled with my on-the-go makeup
6. extra outfit and pants for the babe since blow outs are all part of the territory
7. newborn diaper and travel wipes
8. burp cloth
9. binky
10. hand sanitizer

Current Favorite: Sandwich

Roasted Pepper and Goat Cheese Sandwich

I found this recipe by Ina Garten and tweaked a few things to fit my time constraint of the day. I have listed the alterations I made below but I am sure that making it precisely as she has instructed would be a good choice as well!

Rather then waiting for the peppers to cool after roasting them, I peeled and cut them immediately and tossed them hot into the marinade (minus the capers...who has capers sitting around??).  My peppers were only in the marinade for a few minutes and the taste was strong and delicious. If you have the time to let them sit longer I am sure it would enhance the flavor but you certainly will still be able to enjoy this sandwich without using all that time.

I like my sandwiches to be hot, so I placed my goat cheese covered ciabatta under the broiler for a few minutes until it was nice and toasty. Once I removed them I spread pesto on top of the goat cheese, (I did not have basil and figured pesto would be a nice flavor addition, which it was!) added the peppers and a few sliced red onion pieces and devoured it. Both my husband and I enjoyed this sandwich two days in a row because it was that delicious!

So yummy. So many flavors and textures. Simple to make and luxurious in taste!

Under Eye Concealer

I recently developed this lovely little habit of waking up at 4 am each day and not being able to fall back asleep until around 6am. It is pretty special, laying awake with the foresight that come the afternoon I am going to want to crash with every fiber of my being. Mentally I have been pushing through the time of sleeplessness by praying for all the needs going on in my life and the lives around me; though this practice certainly does not encourage sleep, it does make me feel productive even as I lay there. I remind myself this lack of sleep is going to be the new normal and growing accustom to while I still am getting some sleep cannot be all horrible.

However, when I roll out of bed each morning and take that first look of the day into the mirror I often have this thought..."Now where to start?" The larger my baby belly grows the less I am seeming to care about things such as under eye circles but on the occasional day when it bothers me I have rediscovered this (cheap) little gem of a concealer. It has a nice yellow tone to it which helps counter the shade my lack of sleep has naturally provided. I usually mix it with a tiny bit of moisturizer simply because it can be a little drying for me, but beyond that I have nothing but good things to say about it. With a price point of only $4.99 I think this is a reasonable addition to a makeup routine. Find the product here.

Dreaming in Dresses

Dresses and skirts are my favorite things to wear. I enjoy the femininity of dresses and always find it a win when a single piece of clothing can be considered an entire outfit. I know with nursing in my near future that some dresses will be off limits for a time, but that certainly is not going to stop me from daydreaming about them.  I jumped over to Madewell today and took a peek at their new dresses coming. I appreciate Madewell's ability to be simple, cute and realistic in their clothing options. And please don't get me thinking about the tights I would pair with these lovelies because I might not ever stop!  Here are a few of the dresses that caught my eye....what are you dreaming about lately in the clothing category?

Current (least) Favorite: Mascara

I have desperately been in need of a new mascara and though I have a few sample size mascaras that have been holding me over I was anxious to get a permanent replacement. Being the savvy shopper I like to think of myself as I was thrilled to use my $6 off coupon at Ulta and purchase a mascara for just around that price point. In my mind most drugstore mascaras are created equal so I grabbed the first one that caught my eye and sounded like it had to offer what I wanted.

I truthfully cannot recall purchasing an item of makeup that I so disliked that I stopped using it entirely. I usually make do if the purchase was a poor one and use it with the guilt of money spent propelling me forward. Not this time. This stuff stinks so badly that I refuse to use it due to the amount of time it takes to make it even slightly passable! (picture a few precious minutes wasted on application with the needed follow-up of a different mascara to go on over top!!) What a waste. My only hope is that once it dries out a bit I can some how use it....we shall see. Needless to say-don't get this product! Unless of course you are on the lookout for a labor intensive mascara application process with no pay-off.

White Nail Polish

I blame it on my friend across the street. I ask her over nearly every day and probably about two times a week is she able to jump over and talk with me. Sitting and talking with a girlfriend in the middle of the day feels like a luxury and I soak it all up. We are both pregnant too and have great fun sharing stories of what is taking place in our bodies that week. But I am getting distracted....this post is about white nail polish.

Lately my friend's had these killer white nails. Not too white (remember when we painted our nails with white out in middle school? Just me...oh.)but just the right balance of opaqueness and the slightest hint of pink. I would eye her nails every time she came over. Her white nails read classy, clean, fresh...and I was craving it all. I have an arsenal of nail polishes. Truly. And any of you are more than welcome to come borrow a shade any time you like! But for the life of me my whites and pinks and nudes did not come off with the same crispness as hers. I tried. I think I tried three different shades in attempt to emulate her nails and all of them fell short.
Images taken from here.

Why I never asked her what the color was on her nails from the get-go is beyond me, but one day I asked. "Wink of Pink" by Sally Hansen. The name describes it well. I looked for it at Ulta and couldn't find it....which was probably lucky since I have more nail polish than a normal human and even with an insanely gracious husband I don't want to push the envelope too much. She kindly lent me her bottle which I accepted and splashed all over my nails the moment it was in my hands. But a good color nail polish needs to be owned. Ya know? However, often by the time I obsess over a color enough to purchase it then I soon get over it....now this has not happened yet but my fear of it is hovering (as well as the 100 nail polishes reminding me I can make do without this specific color).

But....but...if you are in the market for a good white/pink nail polish then I would recommend this one. Also, if you have a favorite in this color family please share it with us! And see you all soon for a nail painting party at my house because I am not kidding about loving to share my shades.
